Enjoy the local culture whether it’s starting your day going for an early morning hike or having a coffee on the rooftop patio of Alma del Sol, there’s so much to bask in and enjoy!

A New Class at Alma del Sol!

Exploring Encaustic Painting and the Color of Mexico

Location:  Guanajuato, Mexico.

Workshop Venue:  At the beautiful Alma del Sol rooftop studio

In this encaustic workshop, artists will explore working with encaustic paint with an emphasis on using color. In the class, artists will work with a cool and warm palette with an emphasis on complex color mixing and relationships. Ideas about translucent and opaque color will be covered and are a large part of the class.

The class will also teach artists how to achieve a smooth surface on a large scale painting. While much technical information is covered in the class, the major objective is to help you further refine your own vision. If you are rediscovering your vision, the class prompts will help you clarify what you are looking to say.

The class will use R & F Handmade Paints and show you how to set up a color palette that works for you. We will discuss and use an assortment of small and large brushes that will help you successfully layer paint. Ideas about tinting R & F Gesso will be covered as well as how underpainting may enhance your color. Encaustic painting is known for it’s radiant glow and we will emphasize how you can achieve that “glow” in your paintings.

While much technical information is covered in the class, the overall emphasis is using the processes to reflect each artist's personal vision. Workshop participants will create four paintings over the four day class with the idea of a consistent voice.

Exploring Encaustic Painting and the Color of Mexico is open to anyone with basic or beyond encaustic experience.  Class size is limited to 6.
