I first provide technical information in small bits and appropriate creative techniques that encompass the encaustic and silkscreen processes. Then, once I have provided this information and everyone has been given these tools to work with, I encourage students to implement these techniques as demonstrated and make them their own work, utilizing their individual imagery and expanding their unique aesthetic voice. Students grow by pushing boundaries of creative expression, building images through layering and color. We also will use photo-based and hand drawn images to print onto the encaustic surfaces combining painting and printmaking. We will talk about how printed imagery can be brought into your painting practice to help further your visual direction.
Technical information covered in the three day class includes:
silkscreening onto/ into encaustic surfaces
mixing and applying encaustic paint and silkscreen printing materials
working with opaque asnd translucent color
surface manipulations
mixing oil and wax and using advanced fusing concepts
safety and history of encaustic
